Senator-judge Alan Peter Cayetano said an impartial tribunal is essential to holding public officials accountable as the Senate impeachment court continued hearing the prosecution’s case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
During his questioning of retired Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, Cayetano emphasized the importance of fairness in judicial proceedings.
He said a lack of impartiality could put accountability at risk if a decision is overturned on appeal or rejected by the public.
Cabotaje-Tang agreed, saying a court’s impartiality greatly affects the proper administration of justice. The Senate impeachment court continues to hear the prosecution’s evidence in the case against Duterte.
