6 REGIONS LAG ON MINIMUM WAGE ADJUSTMENTS

House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan urged the six remaining regional wage boards to issue new minimum wage orders before the end of the year to help workers cope with rising living costs.

Of the 17 regional boards, 11 have already approved increases, while Cordillera, Mimaropa, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga have yet to act.

Libanan stressed that delays further erode workers’ purchasing power and that timely wage adjustments are critical to reviving household spending and economic growth.

The most recent wage hike was in Western Visayas, where minimum pay rose by P40 to P550 starting Nov. 19.

Surveys show that increasing worker pay is a top national concern, highlighting the urgency of boosting wages amid persistent inflation.
