Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, the missing sabungeros whistleblower, denied allegations that he threatened News5 reporter Gary de Leon over his coverage of the case.
Patidongan said he merely declined to comment on certain matters due to the ongoing case and challenged de Leon to provide evidence of any threat.
The incident was reported to the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP), which condemned the alleged threat and called for stronger protections for journalists.
The Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) said it has not received any complaint from de Leon and is awaiting his contact to start an investigation.
Patidongan emphasized that he only asked de Leon to be fair and considerate of the families of the missing sabungeros.
