The Supreme Court has ruled that nearly 100 GMA Network talents are regular employees, ending an 11-year legal battle and granting relief to those illegally terminated.
The high court upheld the Court of Appeals’ 2019 decision, rejecting GMA’s claims that flexible hours and higher fees meant there was no employer-employee relationship.
The ruling orders reinstatement with full back wages, benefits, and seniority for 50 dismissed employees, or separation pay if reinstatement is impossible.
The Talents Association of GMA (TAG) hailed the decision as a historic win for media workers and called for an end to contractualization in the industry.
TAG emphasized that the ruling secures employment rights for the next generation of Filipino media professionals after years of hardship and legal struggle.
