Alice Guo, the former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, will appear at the Senate today under heavy security, including handcuffs and a bulletproof vest, due to reported death threats.
Guo is set to be a key witness in the Senate’s investigation into illegal Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGOs).
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo confirmed that these measures comply with a court order and that Guo will be transported securely, accompanied by female officers and a SWAT team.
During the Senate hearing, Guo will face questions about the funding of POGOs and details of her escape, amid concerns over the transparency of POGO operations.
Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos defended his urgent trip to Indonesia to secure Guo’s return, highlighting the tight deadline imposed by Indonesian authorities.
