The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered all units deployed near Mt. Kanlaon to implement strict health safeguards following the volcano’s recent eruption and the spread of volcanic haze.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed commanders to monitor personnel for respiratory symptoms and ensure officers on outdoor duty are provided with N95 masks and other protective equipment.
The move came after a July 9 eruption prompted air quality warnings in Central Visayas and panic-buying of face masks in some areas.
Nartatez also urged police officers to minimize exposure to volcanic emissions and follow health advisories from authorities.
He emphasized that personnel should protect their own health while continuing to serve affected communities.
