The 6th Asian Beach Games concluded in Sanya, China, with a grand closing ceremony, marking the end of the competition and the start of preparations for the Philippines’ hosting of the 2028 edition in Cebu.
The Philippine team achieved its best-ever performance in the event, finishing with three gold, four silver, and two bronze medals, surpassing its previous records in earlier editions.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Bambol Tolentino said the result shows the country’s strong familiarity with beach sports and its potential to improve further as the host nation.
The Philippines also placed fifth overall in the medal standings, its highest ranking since 2012, with gold medals coming from jiu-jitsu and beach athletics events.
Officials expressed optimism that the strong showing will help boost preparations and performance for the 2028 Games.
