The Philippines will host its first-ever WTA 125 event, the Philippine Women’s Open, from January 26 to 31 at the Felicisimo Ampon Tennis Court in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
The event was officially unveiled by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) on December 5.
Filipina tennis star Alex Eala, currently ranked in the world’s Top 50, may participate if her Australian Open schedule permits.
Renovations are underway at the RSMC Tennis Center to meet WTA standards, including five world-class hard courts and seating for over 2,000 spectators, at an estimated cost of P50 to P75 million.
Officials highlighted Eala as a key inspiration for the event, calling her an ambassador for Philippine tennis.
