Alex Eala bowed out of the Philippine Women’s Open after losing to Colombia’s Camila Osorio, 4-6, 4-6, in the quarterfinals at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The second-seeded Filipina, ranked 49th in the world, fell to the World No. 84 in an hour and 29 minutes despite strong support from local fans.
Eala and Osorio traded games throughout both sets, but Osorio ultimately claimed the crucial points in the late stages of each set.
The tournament marked the first WTA 125 event held in the Philippines, which Eala had called a “dream” and a “huge step” for tennis in the country.
Osorio advances to the semifinals against Solana Sierra, while Eala now turns her focus to the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open next month.
