A group of workers is in negotiations with several political parties, including the Liberal Party and Bagumbayan, to form a coalition for the May 2025 midterm elections.
Sonny Matula, newly elected president of the Workers’ Party Philippines (WPP) and head of the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), emphasized the need for collaboration to advance labor rights and economic reforms.
Matula plans to run for the Senate and is also considering including Muslim leaders from the south in their election slate.
The WPP recently held a convention in Quezon City with around 100 trade union and party leaders, signaling a strong push for a united electoral platform.
In a separate development, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is offering to donate old precinct count optical scan (PCOS) and vote counting machines (VCM) to the Department of Education (DepEd) or Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) to save on storage costs.
