Human rights lawyer and Akbayan party-list Rep. Chel Diokno has been elected to key House committees, including public accounts, human rights, dangerous drugs, and public order and safety.
These committees form the quad committee, which was recently reestablished to investigate illegal activities tied to POGO hubs, the drug trade, and alleged human rights violations during the previous administration’s drug war.
The quad committee’s scope may also expand to include cases like missing cockfighters, according to co-chairman Rep. Bienvenido Abante.
Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan led the motion to assign Minority lawmakers to various committees during the House session.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos appointed chairpersons and members for other standing and special committees, signaling progress in organizing the House’s workgroups.
