Two impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte have been transmitted to the Office of the House Speaker, a year after a previous attempt was struck down by the Supreme Court.
The complaints, filed on February 2 by progressive groups including Makabayan, Akbayan, and ML party-lists, cite alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds, betrayal of public trust, graft, and even conspiracy to commit murder.
The House has seven session days, until February 23, to include the complaints in the Order of Business and refer them to the Committee on Justice.
Lawmakers may refile a separate complaint or fast-track proceedings if the first two complaints have not yet been referred, requiring support from one-third of House members.
With President Marcos’ impeachment case dismissed, the focus of the House is expected to remain on Duterte’s impeachment complaints in the coming months.
