Gilas Pilipinas women ended their FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying campaign with a historic 74-59 win over World No. 19 Colombia, marking the program’s first victory against a non-Asian opponent.
Kacey dela Rosa led the team with a monster double-double of 25 points, 19 rebounds, and five blocks, while Sumayah Sugapong added 21 points.
After trailing at halftime, the Philippines went on an 18-5 run in the third quarter and sustained their momentum in the fourth to secure the win.
The victory was Gilas’ only win in the qualifiers, following heavy losses to France, Germany, Nigeria, and Korea.
Gilas finished the group stage with a 1-4 record, while France, Germany, Korea, and Nigeria advanced to the Women’s World Cup.
