United States President Donald Trump has invited the Philippines to join the Board of Peace (BOP), a US-led multinational body focused on post-conflict solutions, including Gaza reconstruction, through a personal letter addressed to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., according to Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel Romualdez.
Manila is still reviewing the nature of its potential commitment, which could involve human resources rather than financial contributions, as the reported USD1 billion applies only to permanent members.
Launched at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Jan. 22, the BOP aims to provide strategic oversight and mobilize international resources during Gaza’s transition.
Currently, only Indonesia and Vietnam are Southeast Asian members, and the Philippines is expected to decide on participation within the next few weeks.
