President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has invited former U.S. President Donald Trump to attend the ASEAN Summit in the Philippines, the Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Jose Manuel Romualdez said.
The invitation was extended during Marcos’ visit to the White House in July 2025.
Romualdez noted that Trump’s attendance would depend on his schedule, given the upcoming U.S. midterm elections.
Marcos’s White House visit also resulted in a revised tariff arrangement that reduced U.S. duties on Philippine exports from 20% to 19%.
The Philippines is hosting the 48th ASEAN Leaders’ Summit in May and the 49th ASEAN Summit in November as part of its 2026 ASEAN chairship.
