Several local chief executives are under investigation by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for allegedly using drug trafficking proceeds to fund their 2025 election campaigns.
PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) director Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta revealed that intelligence reports suggest some mayors are involved in drug distribution, with one reportedly procuring shabu every two weeks.
The PDEG is conducting operations to validate these claims and is sharing information with the public to raise awareness.
Drug syndicates are also intensifying their activities, particularly with a new, cheaper form of shabu.
Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections stated that local officials implicated in drug activities may still run for office unless proven guilty.
