Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste has urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to cancel or reprice P1.6 trillion worth of infrastructure projects, potentially saving P400 billion to fund health and education programs.
Leviste cited irregularities in DPWH projects, including a terminated P95.99-million flood control contract in Lemery, Batangas, where faulty materials and lack of permits were found.
He accused DPWH of continuing to approve overpriced projects, resulting in losses of over P1 billion daily, and called for a review and reduction of unit prices for future contracts.
Leviste pointed to clauses allowing contract termination without penalties due to impracticality or unlawful acts, highlighting alleged corruption and rigged bids within DPWH.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education acknowledged a recent teachers’ walkout protesting corruption and neglect, assuring ongoing dialogue and commitment to address their concerns.
