As part of the national government’s “Oplan Kontra Baha,” the DPWH said it has declogged 60.1 percent of Metro Manila’s drainage system.
So far, 2,770.61 cubic meters of drainage have been cleared out of the 4,606.80-cubic-meter target across 48 locations, while 4.2 percent of waterways have been desilted.
The agency reported progress in all city quadrants, with the West Quadrant showing the highest desilting rate at 36.46 percent.
The P2-billion project aims to cover 142.4 kilometers of rivers, creeks, and esteros, plus 333.15 kilometers of drainage systems to reduce flooding.
President Marcos said proper implementation could cut flooding by up to 60 percent, with completion targeted before the 2026 rainy season.
