After the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) urged local government units (LGUs) to adopt advanced disaster preparedness technologies.
DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. emphasized that while earthquakes cannot be predicted, their impacts can be mitigated using existing tools.
Technologies like HazardHunterPH, How Safe is My House?, GeoRiskPH, Project OMEGA, and REDAS were highlighted as key resources for disaster risk assessment and management.
Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal praised these innovations and pledged to conduct province-wide training for disaster risk reduction stakeholders.
He also warned against complacency despite the absence of fault lines in the province.
