The Department of Health (DOH) reported that sexual contact remains the leading mode of HIV transmission in the Philippines.
Between July and September 2025, 87 percent of new HIV cases were linked to sexual contact, with 3,661 cases from male-to-male sex, 659 from male-to-male/female sex, and 559 from male-to-female sex.
Mother-to-child transmission was the second most common route, with 13 cases reported during the same period.
Sharing of infected needles was rare, with only one case recorded.
The DOH emphasized that sexual transmission has consistently dominated new HIV diagnoses over the years.
