DEPED TRACKS EFFECTS OF DAVAO EARTHQUAKE, REPORTS 10,000 STUDENTS AFFECTED

The Department of Education (DepEd) is monitoring the impact of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Manay, Davao Oriental, which affected nearly 10,000 students across several regions.

Schools in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and Caraga were impacted, leading to class suspensions in affected areas.

DepEd activated its Disaster Risk Reduction teams and Rapid Assessment system to evaluate school damage.

Nearly 10,000 learners and 490 teachers were affected, with a few injuries reported.

Out of 12,399 schools in the affected regions, 202 classrooms were damaged, and at least 559 schools have suspended classes.
