The Department of Education (DepEd) inaugurated the first fully air-conditioned public school building in San Pedro City, Laguna, on December 12, as part of the Marcos administration’s push to modernize education infrastructure.
The new four-storey, 12-classroom facility at Pacita 2 Elementary School will serve over 800 students, providing a more comfortable and conducive learning environment.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that modern classrooms can improve student performance and reflect the government’s commitment to quality education.
The project is part of broader efforts to address the nationwide classroom backlog through partnerships, flexible construction, and increased funding, with DepEd set to receive P85.44 billion in the 2026 budget for facilities.
Local officials and stakeholders expressed optimism that the new air-conditioned classrooms will enhance learning outcomes and support inclusive, modern education.
