COMELEC AWAITS CONGRESS’ DIRECTIVE FOR ANTIPOLO DISTRICT SPECIAL ELECTION

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is waiting for the House of Representatives to request a special election for Antipolo’s second district following the death of Rep. Romeo Acop on Dec. 20.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said the poll body has not yet received any notice from the House to conduct the election.

Laudiangco emphasized that only the House can decide whether to call for a special election or assign a caretaker for the vacant seat.

Acop, who passed away from a heart attack at age 78, left the district without a representative.

The decision on filling the vacancy rests solely with the House of Representatives.
