CALLS MOUNT FOR DOLE ACTION ON BPOS FORCING EMPLOYEES TO WORK DURING STORMS

As Super Typhoon Uwan lashes the country, BPO employees urged the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to protect workers’ safety and labor rights during disasters.

The BPO Industry Employees Network criticized several companies for continuing “business-as-usual” operations with little or no consideration for employees in affected areas.

The group previously reported similar violations during Typhoon Tino but said DOLE failed to respond, prompting an open letter demanding immediate action.

Employees called on DOLE to ensure workers are not penalized for prioritizing safety and to hold companies accountable for putting profits before people.

Currently, Typhoon Uwan triggers Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 in four areas, Signal No. 4 in 21 areas, and Signal No. 3 in 15 areas, including Metro Manila.
