CALLS FOR INQUIRY INTO ALLEGED ‘FLYING VOTERS FOR HIRE’ SCHEME

Residents of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija, are urging the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to investigate an alleged “flying voters for a fee” scheme that they claim is widespread in their town.

They assert that political operators are exploiting a loophole in the Omnibus Election Code, allowing the systematic transfer of registered voters from cities like Valenzuela and Quezon to Cabiao, purportedly to sway the outcome of the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.

The residents allege that these “paid voters” lack genuine ties to the community and rely on village-issued certificates that do not meet legal residency requirements.

They argue that this practice undermines the integrity of local elections, as it enables individuals without legitimate connections to interfere in the electoral process.

In a petition to Comelec Chairman George Garcia, they highlighted the involvement of certain barangay officials in issuing fraudulent certificates and called for action to uphold fair elections.
