BARCENA APPOINTED AS HEAD OF NATIONAL PRIVACY COMMISSION

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. administered the oath of office to Atty. Johann Carlos Barcena as the new National Privacy Commission (NPC) chief on Thursday at Malacañang.

Barcena previously served as executive director at the Office of the Commissioner under the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations.

He succeeds Atty. John Henry Naga has held the post since 2021.

The NPC welcomed Barcena’s appointment, expressing confidence in his leadership to strengthen data protection.

The commission also highlighted his role in promoting a safer and more trusted digital environment in the Philippines.
