The Department of Justice (DOJ) welcomed President Marcos’ appointment of lawyer Melvin Matibag as the new director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Feb. 19.
The DOJ said it looks forward to working closely with Matibag and the NBI under his leadership.
Matibag previously served as PDP-Laban secretary general and Cabinet secretary under former President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
Outgoing NBI Acting Director Angelito DLP. Magno expressed gratitude for his brief tenure, calling it an honor and a profound responsibility.
Magno had been appointed in December 2025 to replace former director Jaime B. Santiago, who resigned from the post.
