The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will continue its voter registration and election preparations despite confirmation that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will sign the law postponing the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on August 12.
The measure will move the polls from December 1, 2025, to November 2026 and extend officials’ terms from three to four years.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia emphasized that the postponement becomes effective only after publication and could still face legal challenges, including a possible Supreme Court-issued TRO.
A nationwide 10-day registration campaign is ongoing, targeting around one million new voters, with special provisions for out-of-town registrants and youth voters.
Meanwhile, election preparations such as ballot box procurement continue, but ballot printing is on hold, and new ballots will be designed without preprinted dates to accommodate possible schedule changes.
