The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) welcomed Commodore Algier Ricafrente as its new spokesperson on Friday, succeeding Rear Admiral Armando Balilo, who will retire on Monday.
Ricafrente also takes on the role of acting commander of the PCG Public Affairs Service (CGPAS) and continues as the deputy chief of Coast Guard staff for international affairs.
During the turnover ceremony, Balilo expressed gratitude to the CGPAS and media for their support in enhancing public awareness of the PCG’s operations.
He encouraged continued collaboration and welcomed Ricafrente, hoping the transition would inspire truthful and impactful storytelling.
Balilo retires after completing 30 years of service, having been the PCG spokesperson since 2003 under 19 different commandants.
