The Bacolod City Council is proposing to lower the minimum age for its senior citizens’ cash incentive program from 80 to 75 years old, while doubling the annual budget from P5 million to P10 million.
Under the amended ordinance, seniors aged 75 to 80, 81 to 90, and 91 to 99 will receive P10,000 each, with centenarians receiving an additional incentive.
The measure, authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito and co-authored by Councilor Celia Flor, has passed its first reading.
The city also recently distributed waterproof emergency go-bags to over 500 senior citizens and persons with disabilities to boost disaster preparedness.
Mayor Greg Gasataya emphasized the city’s dedication to inclusive services, including plans to establish a Senior Citizens Center and maintain special recognition during the MassKara Festival.
