Local government units have been urged to organize community fireworks displays to reduce accidents during New Year celebrations.
The Department of Health (DOH) emphasized that professional handling of fireworks is safer than allowing residents, especially children or intoxicated individuals, to light them at home.
DOH spokesman Albert Domingo encouraged people to enjoy public displays rather than setting off firecrackers themselves.
Last year, 844 fireworks-related injuries were reported between December 21 and January 6, highlighting the risks of home fireworks use.
The department aims to lower that number this year by promoting safer, professionally managed community events.
