The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) condemned the violent assault against a person with disability (PWD) on public transportation, calling the act inhumane and urging that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
DSWD Crisis Intervention Program Director Edwin Morata described the attack, which included kicking, punching, and electrocution, as a clear case of abuse against a vulnerable sector.
The agency is currently coordinating to locate the victim to provide medical and psychological assistance.
Under President Marcos Jr.’s directive, the government is committed to protecting the rights and welfare of PWDs through a whole-of-government approach.
The DSWD also appealed to the public to report any information about the attackers to authorities to ensure accountability and uphold the protections under existing laws.
