In a surprising move, Sandro Marcos, the son of President Ferdinand Marcos, declared the position of chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations vacant as Congress resumed session after the holiday break.
This move comes after speculation that Rep. Zaldy Co, who had held the position since 2022, may have displeased the President.
Co stepped down due to health concerns, thanking his colleagues for understanding.
No replacement for Co has been named yet, though sources suggest a potential successor from within the Marcos circle.
Meanwhile, Speaker Martin Romualdez pledged to continue investigating issues affecting the public, including rice prices, health funding, and the misuse of government funds.
