The Supreme Court said it will still tackle the petition of former lawmaker Zaldy Co despite his fugitive status.
Supreme Court spokesperson Camille Ting confirmed on January 29 that Co’s petition will be “immediately included in the agenda” and updates will be provided as soon as possible.
Co filed the petition on January 25, challenging the Ombudsman’s indictment of him for graft and malversation over an alleged ghost flood control project in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, worth P289.5 million.
Under a 2025 Supreme Court ruling in Vallacar Transit v. Ricardo Yanson, individuals who evade the law as fugitives generally lose the right to judicial relief or favorable rulings.
The high court, however, has not yet decided how it will act on Co’s petition, leaving the matter pending.
