The OFW party-list has filed an urgent petition before the Supreme Court to halt the implementation of Comelec’s NBOC Resolution 14-25, which allocates only 63 party-list seats for the 20th Congress.
They argue that the party-list system, intended to represent marginalized groups like overseas Filipino workers, has been compromised by powerful political interests favoring large groups under the “Banat” formula.
The petition also challenges the constitutional validity of allocating fewer than the required 64 seats, violating the 20 percent party-list quota mandated by the 1987 Constitution.
OFW party-list Rep. Marissa Magsino called for the restoration of the system’s integrity, emphasizing the need to protect marginalized voices.
The group is seeking a temporary restraining order to stop the resolution’s implementation while the case is being reviewed by the Court.
