Leyte 4th District Rep. Richard Gomez faces potential ethics complaints over allegations that he physically attacked and verbally threatened Philippine Fencing Association president Rene Gacuma during the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Terry Ridon said Gomez’s actions, including striking the nape of a senior citizen, could impinge on the reputation and dignity of the House.
Gacuma reported that Gomez confronted him over the replacement of an athlete, physically restrained him, and issued threats, prompting him to seek medical attention due to high blood pressure and existing heart conditions.
Gomez admitted to “ungentlemanly deeds” but argued that the PFA’s decision to replace the athlete was inconsistent and unfair.
Any ethics complaints against Gomez would be reviewed by the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, which previously suspended Cavite Rep. Francisco Barzaga over unbefitting conduct.
