The Makati City government has acquired three Rosenbauer Smart Firefighting Robots to reduce firefighter casualties during high-risk operations.
Each robot can be remotely controlled via joysticks, withstand extreme heat and poor visibility, and carry up to 600 kilograms, including injured victims.
Outgoing Mayor Abby Binay said the robots will boost response capabilities in complex emergencies through technology that offsets human limitations.
The robots can discharge up to 3,500 liters of water with an 80-foot vertical reach and are part of a broader investment in disaster equipment, including aerial ladders, super tankers, and mobile command vehicles.
These efforts build on Makati’s recognition in 2022 as Southeast Asia’s first UN-designated resilience hub.
