SENATORS ADVOCATE FOR CONCISE SONA AS FLOODS DEVASTATE COMMUNITIES

Senators Loren Legarda and Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito have called for a simpler opening of the 20th Congress and a toned-down State of the Nation Address (SONA) in light of the ongoing floods affecting many Filipinos.

Legarda emphasized that the ceremonies should focus on addressing the country’s pressing issues, especially environmental concerns and flood mitigation efforts.

She highlighted the need for the government to be in touch with the realities faced by disaster-stricken communities rather than holding lavish events.

The Senate leadership is considering canceling the traditional red carpet walk as a sign of solidarity with those impacted by calamities.

Ejercito also urged that the SONA not be treated as a grand spectacle while many Filipinos continue to suffer from the effects of recent disasters.
