The Liberal Party (LP) is fielding prominent candidates, including former senator Leila de Lima, for next year’s party-list elections.
De Lima will lead the LP’s sectoral wing, Mamamayang Liberal (ML), which aims to broaden the party’s base amid a competitive Senate race.
Former congressmen Teddy Baguilat and Erin Tañada will serve as the second and third nominees, respectively.
De Lima described the decision to enter the party-list race as a “strategic move” to create a more dynamic and responsive national party, reflecting the diverse membership of ML, which includes various sectors such as women, youth, and indigenous peoples.
Initially hesitant about running, De Lima chose the party-list route to further advocate for social justice while upholding the core values of the LP, including freedom, democracy, and accountability.
