The Senate will hold a rare all-member caucus today to discuss legislative priorities and the implications of the Supreme Court’s ruling declaring the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional, Senate President Francis Escudero announced.
Escudero noted that while the caucus focuses on Senate work, the impeachment issue will “most likely” be brought up, although he emphasized the need to implement the SC decision.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada argued the impeachment trial should no longer proceed, warning it could lead to a constitutional crisis.
However, senators aligned with former VP Leni Robredo criticized the SC’s ruling as judicial overreach and called for a resolution challenging the reinterpretation of impeachment rules.
House leaders, including Speaker Martin Romualdez, acknowledged the SC ruling but stressed their continued duty to seek the truth and uphold constitutional processes.
