A Senate committee has summoned Makati-based marketing firm InfinitUs Marketing Solutions Inc. to its upcoming hearing on May 5, as part of an investigation into the company’s alleged involvement in deploying China-funded trolls to influence the May 12 midterm elections.
Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino revealed that the investigation follows the discovery of a service agreement between InfinitUs and the Chinese embassy, which allegedly involved the deployment of “keyboard warriors” to promote China’s interests and support pro-Beijing candidates.
The firm, founded by Paul Li and Myka Basco in 2018, has two Chinese nationals among its incorporators, raising further concerns about foreign interference.
Tolentino emphasized that the hearing will allow InfinitUs the opportunity to defend itself, while also aiming to strengthen the country’s democratic system.
The Senate is also seeking to update anti-espionage laws and impose harsher penalties, with potential charges for those involved in the troll operation, including Filipino participants.
