Severe flooding in southern Thailand has forced organizers to move eleven sports at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, scheduled for December 9-20, mostly to Bangkok.
The floods, particularly severe in Songkhla near the Malaysian border, have caused at least 55 deaths and displaced thousands.
Sports affected by the venue changes include men’s football, chess, judo, karate, and wrestling.
SEA Games Thailand 2025 said the adjustments, made less than two weeks before the Games, are meant to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, and spectators.
Despite the relocations, the organizing committee reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a world-class, efficiently managed event.
