Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla revealed that the P5.8-billion shabu shipment intercepted off Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, is linked to a sophisticated Chinese-led international drug syndicate.
The group used drones to track the drugs after their speedboat ran aground while evading authorities, showing a highly coordinated operation rather than isolated smugglers.
Two Chinese nationals and two Filipino operatives were arrested, while a female Chinese suspect believed to be the syndicate’s leader remains at large.
The syndicate reportedly transferred large drug shipments from motherships at sea to smaller vessels for delivery to the mainland.
The seized shabu, confirmed by PDEA to have 90 percent purity, has been turned over for further investigation.
