Executive Secretary Ralph Recto emphasized that Philippine development should be guided by long-term plans, not political whims, during the 90th Anniversary of Socio-Economic Planning.
He highlighted the Marcos administration’s commitment to implementing Ambisyon Natin 2040 and the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028, which aim to achieve inclusive growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.
Recto stressed the importance of planning that transcends political terms and can address generational challenges and crises, citing global conflicts and trade disruptions as examples.
He noted that poverty has fallen from 23.5 percent a decade ago to 15.5 percent today, to reach single-digit levels by 2028.
Recto also praised the Department of Economic Planning and Development (Depdev) as the government’s “nerve center of reason” that monitors progress and ensures development benefits ordinary Filipinos.
