President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed support for Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile’s statement that Congress should not be pressured regarding the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Marcos emphasized that while impeachment proceedings are a constitutional process, pursuing them at this time would be impractical due to the upcoming election season, which could hinder Congress from forming a quorum.
Enrile had also questioned the role of the religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in holding a rally to show support for Duterte, warning of the long-term consequences of such actions.
The INC rally, attended by 1.8 million members, was seen as a warning to lawmakers against impeaching Duterte.
Meanwhile, calls for a swift impeachment process were made at a separate peace rally at the EDSA Shrine.
