Senator Grace Poe called on the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to strictly enforce rules for issuing driver’s licenses to ensure that only qualified drivers are on the road.
Poe’s statement came after a series of fatal accidents, including a crash on the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) that killed 10 people.
She emphasized that road safety relies on skilled, law-abiding drivers and that the recent accidents should be a wake-up call for transportation officials.
Poe also reiterated her support for the 10-year driver’s license validity policy, which rewards law-abiding drivers while incentivizing responsible behavior.
In addition to the SCTEx crash, Poe highlighted other recent accidents, including one in Marikina City, and urged the government to pass the transportation safety bill to curb rising road mishaps.
