Bulacan 6th district Rep. Salvador Pleyto raised concerns over the digital exclusion of senior citizens during a privilege speech on October 7.
He highlighted how many elderly Filipinos struggle to access essential services, such as pension releases, which now require using digital platforms like the GSIS app.
Pleyto questioned how seniors in remote areas without smartphones or internet can comply, warning that this could cut them off from benefits rightfully theirs.
He urged lawmakers to show greater compassion and support for the elderly to ensure they thrive, not just survive.
The speech was given during the observance of Elderly Filipino Week, emphasizing the need to uphold the dignity of older Filipinos.
