PHILIPPINES SIGNS DEALS WITH KOREAN FIRMS TO UPGRADE WARSHIPS AND JETS

The Philippines has reportedly signed deals with South Korean firms to upgrade 11 FA-50 fighter jets and acquire two new warships.

The FA-50 upgrades, valued at 93 billion won (P3.7 billion), will enhance precision-guided munitions, operational range, and networked capabilities.

Including previously contracted aircraft, a total of 23 FA-50PH jets will strengthen the Philippine Air Force’s air defense and modernize its fleet.

Hyundai Heavy Industries will build two 3,200-ton-class frigates for the Philippine Navy under an 844.7-billion-won (P34.3 billion) contract, set for delivery by the second half of 2029.

The new warships will follow the specifications of the Miguel Malvar-class frigates and aim to boost the Navy’s maritime warfare capabilities.
