The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) warned hospitals against charging excessive blood-processing fees, citing reports of overpricing at some private facilities.
PRC Chairman Richard Gordon noted that additional tests sometimes push total charges as high as ₱10,000, far above regulated limits.
The PRC maintains fees in line with Department of Health (DOH) rules to keep blood affordable, accessible, and safe.
DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa supported the warning and suggested a complaint center for patients to report irregularities.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to ethical, transparent, and regulated blood services while ensuring patient safety.
