Patrick Gerard Lee won a bronze medal in the men’s C5 scratch race at the Asian Cycling Confederation Track and Para Track Cycling Championships on March 29, marking the Philippines’ first medal in the event.
The 21-year-old para cyclist, who lost his right forearm as a child, also earned points toward qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
Earlier, Food Panda delivery rider Zedrick Ivan Honorica set a new Philippine record in the men’s elite sprint using his P2,500 bike frame, breaking a 20-year-old national record.
Lee and Honorica’s achievements showcased Filipino talent despite limited resources compared to elite international competitors.
Joel Inn Tacutaco also competed, finishing fifth, while both athletes received support from the Philippine Sports Commission, local officials, and private sponsors.
